Callimachus

As a service of SCELC, Callimachus provides consortial access to CONTENTdm.

Trials

A trial of Callimachus was conceived of in order to let SCELC libraries experiment with CONTENTdm before fully committing to the purchase of a license.

  • Trials will last three months, which should be enough time to get familiar with the CONTENTdm administrative interface and the Project Client software.
  • For the trial period, the library will be limited to one collection in Callimachus.
  • The metadata schema for the collection may be based upon any of: Simple Dublin Core, Qualified Dublin Core, or VRA Core 3.0. Additional fields may be added to any metadata template.
  • Customizations to the look of the collection may be made by the library with limited support by SCELC staff.

If after three months, a library chooses not to continue with Callimachus and purchase a license, the collection will be unpublished and no longer accessible to the library or the public. The collection could potentially be migrated to an institution’s own CONTENTdm license at the institution’s cost.

To move to a full license after the trial is over, an order form must be returned to SCELC and the normal procedures for joining Callimachus will begin. The collection that was created during the trial may remain published. New collections can be created and customizations to the style of the collections will be allowed. Also, a custom portal into an institution’s collections may be created.

Support will be given to help get trial users working with the system either by SCELC or by OCLC, depending on the nature of the issue.
