SCELC Open Education Network Train the Trainer Workshop: Home

I attended the Train the Trainer Workshop--Now what?

Once you have attended a Train the Trainer Workshop, now it is time to schedule a workshop for faculty on your campus! Below you will find information and resources from OEN that will help you develop your workshop.

Once you schedule a time and date to host your workshop, please contact Alejandra Nann. She will create a registration link where faculty can sign up. If you prefer to use your own registration form, please send Alejandra a list of faculty and their email addresses. This will create a unique URL for each faculty to provide a review. An email generated from OEN will be sent to faculty that includes an example review as well as where they can complete their review. OEN recommends faculty submit their reviews 6 to 8 weeks post workshop date. This will allow faculty just enough time to review an open textbook.

SCELC does not offer stipends and leave it to the instituions to provide stipends, if possible. Stipends range from $200-$250 for faculty who complete OTL reviews.

SCELC's Open Education Network Train the Trainer Workshop

About the Train the Trainer Workshop

The purpose of the OEN workshop is to “Train the Trainers” (or “Train the Advocates”). The workshops will increase participants’ familiarity with the nuances related to the issues around OTN’s open textbook adoptions; strengthen presentation capacity for local workshops on OTN implementation; and enhance OTN’s open textbook program.  Workshops via Zoom will be scheduled for three hours. Attendees are required to do some homework a week or two prior in order to be fully prepared for the workshop.

Topics covered include:

  • Identifying obstacles to open textbook adoptions
  • An in-depth look into OTN
  • Making the case on your campus
  • Developing an effective program on your campus
  • Strategies for addressing common challenges

Who is it intended for?

  • Librarians who would like to teach workshops to their faculty on open textbook adoption and OER
  • Campus leaders (i.e. librarians, administrators, etc) who would like to learn about launching an OER program on their campus
  • OER advocates who are looking to improve their current OER program
  • Librarians and OER advocates who would like to host OEN workshops for their faculty

What is a SCELC System Leader? A SCELC System Leader is a librarian that attended a specialized OTN Summer Institute in July 2019 and learned the ins and outs of the Open Textbook Network. They are available to support campuses across SCELC by hosting additional Train the Trainer workshops for librarians interested in learning more about OTN.
